Scholar of the Painted Skies

My upcoming YA fantasy novel is currently querying with literary agents.

When fifteen-year-old Myrtle Blackwell faces trial for spellcraft, the villagers of Gogmagog are convinced she’s guilty. After all, her very birth was a crime against the saints. Never mind that she has a better grasp of the Holy Scripts than any of them, or that she’s never cast a spell in her life; they’re determined to see her in an asylum where she — a witch — belongs. Not until a wealthy patroness offers her the chance to study at the Royal College of Astrology does Myrtle have the opportunity to leave the village and make her own destiny. But a professor of the Royal College dies under mysterious circumstances and the resulting investigation threatens to dredge up all the questions about Myrtle’s past that she’s been trying to run from. Only when her friend faces hanging for the murder he didn’t commit will Myrtle devote herself to uncovering the truth that can save him — however uncomfortable it is.
